Why We Do It:
Canmore Hospital needs equipment that is not provided by the regular budget from the Province. Thus, Canmore
& Area Health Care Foundation raises funds to provide this equipment.
The Foundation is currently raising funds for three main areas to improve health care, and has set a goal of establishing an Endowment Fund:
1. Endoscopy Equipment
Endoscopy Equipment helps to diagnose and treat diseases such as cancer. Statistics indicate that screening colonoscopies (after age 50 and every ten years after that, with removal of polyps as detected) reduce an individuals’ risk of colon cancer by 95%! Because we have the equipment and the doctors to use the equipment, Canmore Hospital performs 1,800 scopes each year. Wait times for this treatment are significantly shorter than in other centres such as in Calgary.
2. Preventative Care
In the summer of 2010, the Foundation, the Town of Canmore, and Western Economic Diversification are partnering to install an Adult Outdoor Fitness Circuit at Centennial Park in downtown Canmore. We believe that this will contribute to the health and well-being of adults - minimizing the need for additional health services and contributing to a healthy lifestyle.
Thank you to Canmore Seniors' Association and Canmore Hospital Ladies Auxillary for supporting this new initiative! Only specific donations will be directed towards Preventative Care initiatives.
3. Programs
Stress is inherent in our life experience. However the stressors in our life today are
becoming chronic for many of us. Our bodies’ response to chronic stress can exhaust
our coping reserves and render us vulnerable to health problems. The Mindfulness Meditation Program (MMP) enables patients and their families to better manage their stress levels and improve their health and well-being.
Many donors have supported MMP enabling the Hospital to provide this program to hundreds of patients and their families.
4. Endowment Fund
In our ever-changing world there is little about the future that we can be sure of. However, the need for health care is one of them. Knowing this, the Foundation has set a $5 million endowment fund goal. This fund will enable the Foundation to raise funds to improve health care for many years to come.
Of course, Endowment Funds can also be used for many other worthwhile causes, such as funding a specific program or supporting a specific area of the Hospital over many years.
Your generosity can help us to purchase more hospital equipment. There is always a significant amount of equipment on the Hospital wish list.
