Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation raises money to maintain and enhance health care for the people of the community of Canmore and the surrounding area, including Harvie Heights, Exshaw, Seebe, Kananaskis, Lac Des Arcs, and the Municipal District of Bighorn. The Foundation receives administrative funding from Calgary Health Region, so all funds donated go directly to the purchase of health care equipment.

The Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation Trustees have identified that the purpose of the Foundation will be fundraising that focuses on, and is limited to, equipment purchases for Canmore Service Area health services. Further, the Trustees have specified that such equipment purchases would supplement local needs, and not replace government funding of equipment. The Foundation Trustees receive updates from the Canmore Service Area administration on a regular basis to identify the equipment needs for fundraising purposes.

Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation is a non-profit organization, under the Regional Health Authorities Act of Alberta. It was formed via a By-Law of Headwaters Regional Health Authority in June 2000.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees who are approved by the Regional Health Authority, and advised to the Minister of Health and Wellness. As of October 2009, the Board of Trustees includes: Gary Montgomery (Chair); Rollie Zellmer (Vice Chair); John Cranston (Treasurer), Diane Travers (Secretary), Graham Lock (Past Chair); Tom Docking, Sebastien Villeneuve, Ann Keith and Jack Vandeventer.

Day to day activities are managed by the Executive Directors (Paula and Ron Remple), who are contracted by the Foundation. Volunteers, also known as "Friends of the Foundation" are recruited by the Board and the Executive Directors to help implement the fund-raising initiatives.

The Foundation is registered in Alberta to accept donations as a charitable organization, and is registered with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as a registered charity, and can thereby issue tax receipts.
