Three Golf Tournaments Support health care in the Bow Valley!

Despite a rainy day, the 2010 SilverTip golf tournament was another huge success! This year the sponsors, golfers, and prize donors combined to raise $91,000 for the Canmore Hospital. The funds raised will be used to purchase Endoscopy Equipment for the Hospital. This equipment is used for the early detection and treatment of diseases such as cancer.
The program after the tournament was a treat...our local comedians and doctors (Dr. Mike Wickham and Dr. Cort Pagenkopf) entertained the crowd with a demonstration of the lighter side of the use of the equipment purchased last year (Portable Ultrasound for the Emergency Room) and the Endoscopy Equipment being purchased in 2010.
We are very fortunate that the Canmore Hospital has the equipment and doctors to perform endoscopies. Dr. Pagenkopf indicates that screening colonoscopies (after age 50 and every ten years after that with removal of polyps as detected) reduce an individuals’ risk of colon cancer by 95%. So just think about how many people have been impacted by the purchase of the endoscopy equipment in 2006, and how many more will be impacted by replacing the equipment in 2010!
Over the past 7 years the funds raised at this golf tournament has enabled the Canmore Hospital to purchase:
• Palliative Care beds ($25,000) to provide a level of comfort for patients in their last stage of life;
• Endoscopy equipment ($150,000) to enable our surgeon to detect diseases such as cancer at the earliest and most treatable stages;
• Cardiac equipment such as the Telemetry System ($110,000) that enables nurses to monitor cardiac patients, and the Echocardiograph Machine ($135,000) that takes a moving picture of the heart which cardiac specialists can use to diagnose heart problems.
• Cancer Clinic expansion. The expansion is complete and the Grand Opening will be held in the near future! The expansion came in under budget, so the Foundation was able to purchase additional equipment that will complement cancer care!
• Anesthetic machine ($150,000) and ultrasound ($42,000) were purchased after last year’s golf tournament.
We are grateful to everyone who made the tournament another great success...sponsors, golfers, prize donors and volunteers. We anticipate that the Foundation will have sufficient funds to purchase the Endoscopy equipment by the end of 2010.
Thank you,
Ron & Paula Remple
Co-Executive Directors

In the 5 years since Gary Montgomery started bringing his Oil & Gas friends and colleagues to the Health Care Foundation golf tournament, the "Canmore Connection" has raised over $130,000 for the Foundation! This is amazing and we are grateful for all of the people involved with the Connection!
On Sept 10, 2010, the fourth annual Canmore Connection Charity Golf Tournament will take place at Canmore Golf & Curling Club. Funds raised will again be used to purchase equipment that is outside of the budget of the local hospital. This equipment could not have been purchased without the support of so many weekenders and visitors to Canmore who golf at this tournament! Thank you!!.
We are grateful for each golfer ($140 of each registration goes to purchase equipment for the Canmore Hospital!) and for the sponsors. For information on the 2009 CCC sponsors, please click on their logo to be directed to the sponsor's web page.
